Styled By You Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 27, 2026. Contact: support@styledbyyou.app
Styled By You is a personal stylist that works from clothes you already own. This policy says, in plain English, what the app collects, where it goes, and what you control. It is written to be read.
What the app collects
- Closet videos and photos you film or choose, so the app can recognize your garments.
- A full-length photo of you, only if you choose to add one, so outfits can be rendered on your own body.
- Your taps and settings (occasions, vibes, comfort, feedback like "Wore it"), which stay on your phone.
- Anonymous usage counters and times (captures, review edits, opens, renders, and when they happened) kept on your phone; they leave only if you export and share the file yourself.
- A crash and error log kept on your phone; it leaves only if you share it with us.
- An anonymous app ID. When the app uses our server, it signs in anonymously so we can count your use against the free and paid limits. Our server keeps that ID with your usage counts and when you last used the app, until you delete your account or 12 months after you last use the app, whichever comes first.
- If you choose to sign in with Apple: the sign-in ID Apple creates for this app. We don't ask Apple for your name or email.
- If you subscribe: Apple's signed record of your subscription (its ID, plan, price, dates and App Store country). The app sends it to our server with each try-on so the server can apply the Premium allowance, and our server checks it with Apple. Our server keeps the subscription's ID with that month's try-on count and its status from Apple. That record isn't linked to your anonymous app ID.
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, or location history, and you don't need an account.
Weather. When you tap "Use my weather," the app sends your approximate location (never your precise one) to Apple's WeatherKit service to get the current temperature and whether it's raining. The location goes to Apple, not to us, and the app doesn't store it. Apple says it uses that location only to provide the forecast, doesn't associate it with personally identifiable information, and never tracks it between requests.
Where your images go and why
Closet media and, if you add it, your try-on photo are sent to Google's Gemini API to recognize garments and to render outfits. Usually they go through our own server first: the app uploads them to our storage on Google Firebase under your anonymous ID, and our server (Firebase Cloud Functions), which holds the AI key and checks the request came from a genuine copy of the app, passes them to Gemini. Some test builds send them from your phone straight to Gemini instead.
- Uploads are deleted as soon as each request finishes, from our server's storage and from Google's file store. Anything a refused or interrupted request leaves behind is deleted automatically within two days.
- Google also keeps what our server sends to Gemini, and Gemini's reply, for up to 55 days, only to detect misuse of its service. It doesn't use them to train models.
- We use Google's paid API tier, under which Google does not use your content to train its models. If you use your own Gemini key (an option in some test builds), Google's terms for that key apply instead: on its free tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products.
- What we keep after processing: the garment cut-out images and their details (color, type, tags), on your phone, and in your cloud closet if you sign in to sync.
Closet sync (optional)
If you sign in with Apple, the app backs up your closet so you can restore it on another device.
- What's stored: each garment's cut-out image and its details (type, colors, pattern, fabric, tags, brand, description), in your account's private folder on Google Firebase.
- What stays on your phone: your taste and comfort settings, feedback, wear history, try-on photos, and usage counters.
- Removed garments: cut-outs of pieces you delete from your closet stay in your cloud backup until you delete your account.
- Signing out keeps this phone's closet and leaves your cloud backup in place.
What we never do
- We never sell, rent, or share your images or data.
- We never use your photos to train anything.
- We never show ads or share data with advertisers.
Retention and deletion
- Server-side uploads: deleted when each request finishes; anything left behind, within two days.
- Your anonymous usage record on our server: deleted when you delete your account, or 12 months after you last use the app.
- Your subscription's record on our server (its ID, that month's try-on count and its status from Apple): deleted 12 months after it was last used. It isn't linked to your app ID, so deleting your account doesn't remove it sooner.
- Your closet, photos, and settings live on your phone. Delete the app and they are gone from it. You can also export your closet from Settings at any time.
- If you signed in, your cloud closet stays until you delete your account. Settings → Delete account & data removes your cloud closet (including cut-outs of removed garments), your usage record, and the account itself. Deleting the app does not.
- Try-on renders are shown to you and are not stored on our server.
Your choices
- You are asked for consent before the first upload, and again if what we send ever changes.
- You can decline; the app still works with the demo closet.
- Closet sync is off unless you sign in, and you can use every other feature without an account.
- You can reset consent, export your closet, delete your account, or view and share your diagnostics log from Settings.
Children
Styled By You is for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the app will ask for consent again before the next upload.
